Nike Store Kills Bots With New Checkout Process, The Internet Rejoices

Arise at 4:50am PST, fire up the laptop, check the Nike Store Twitter religiously until 5:00 am. Click the buy link as soon as the object your desire comes available, choose selected size, and pray for a good start to the Saturday.

But alas, the bots beat out damn near everyone, ruining the online sneaker shopping experience for some time now. Finally, Nike has done something for the folks who just want some f*cking shoes with minimal hassle.

No idea what we’re talking about? For the uninitiated, bots are a script or browser plugin that are used to add kicks to carts and start the checkout process in milliseconds, leaving regular customers trying to cop the same shoes in the dust.

For this Saturday’s releases, the Swoosh employed a new four-step image verification introduced to prove humans were at the computer and we rejoiced. Before a buyer can checkout, one of the steps in the process includes matching words to pictures, ie, something a bot can’t do. Take that take that take that, you automated cheaters.

Tip of the hat to Nike for leveling the playing field.
