The other day at the local 7-11, I was getting my daily allotment of caffeine and happened to see a baby-faced Weezy F. Baby on the cover of a special XXL anniversary issue. Being a sucker for rap nostalgia, I intended to purchase, but balked when I saw the $5.99 price tag.
Although I have no problem wasting money on coffee and energy drinks daily, that ticket caught me off guard. Maybe my sticker shock’s a sign of the flailing print journalism market or the simple fact I’m just a cheapskate, but either way – that was too pricey for my pockets and I ultimately passed.
Although I’m clearly not alone in my neglect for buying rap rags, I’m curious, how frequently are we still supporting our favorite Hip-Hop publications these days?
