It’s been nearly a decade since Frank Miller’s Sin City brought its mix of sex, neo-noir, and uber-violence to the big screen by way of Miller and Robert Rodriguez. At times a page for frame direct translation of the original comics, the original was a commercial success and showed that Rodriguez was capable of directing a successful adult marketed film. It was such a success that people were expecting more tales from the blood stained and nihilistic streets of Sin City immediately.
Sadly, script re-writes, Miller’s busy schedule, and financial issues put the film in development limbo until 2012. Fast forward to hhis August, Miller and company are set to bring back fan faves Marv, Nancy, and Hartigan, as well as new characters like Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Johnny, for more of Sin City’s sordid tales of love, betrayal, death, and nudity (hopefully). Based on a mix of two comic stories (“A Dame to Kill For” and “Just Another Saturday Night”) and two original stories, the creators are looking forward to catching lightning in a bottle again.
