I was a preacher’s kid. Along with my mom, I grew up with my granddad, who was a strict minister. He had us in church every Sunday. From Sunday school, to devotional service, to morning service, afternoon service, and the occasional revival, I spent much of my youth warming the hard wooden pews of my local St. _____ or Greater Mount ______. Even with that upbringing, I found plenty of time to raise hell when granddad wasn’t looking.
That’s why it doesn’t surprise me one bit to see that Nicki Minaj’s mom, Carol Maraj, has released a new gospel song entitled “God’s Been Good.” Even though Nicki is setting thirst traps on IG and shooting down lookin’ ass n*ggas like enemy aircraft, it doesn’t preclude her mom from sharing the good word and spreading the gospel. The song is, er, heartfelt, but let’s just say the bright, synthy, little track, isn’t going to send Yolanda Adams running back into the studio. Ms. Maraj seems like a nice woman, and I hope she enjoyed herself making this song.
On a side note, I will probably be at church on Easter Sunday with the rest of the heathens that go once a year. I’ll see y’all there. I’ll be the one in unusually shiny dress shoes paired with thick white sweat socks.
