It’d be heresy if an artist had flipped Outkast’s “Hold On, Be Strong” and not brought his or her A+ game, but Stat Quo totally gets it. The Atlanta emcee not only etched an emotionally compelling rags-to-riches tale on his particular flip, aptly titled “Outkast,” but he did the whole thing well, from getting producer Dueno to reconstruct the original beat with an extra thump to the frequent, appropriate Outkast-related allusions.
And the video for “Outkast,” shot in black and white by Quo himself, just amplifies his version. The views of Los Angeles and Atlanta are simple, but pack in a grandness that fits along with Quo’s engaging rhymes and story. Check out the video below.
And the album it’s off, ATLA: All This Life Allows, Vol. 1? Well that’s out now and worth the listen if you haven’t checked it out already.
