Six years ago, Vince Gilligan’s Breaking Bad first graced your television, making a star out of an actor – Bryan Cranston – primarily known for his comedic chops.
Fast-forward to 2014, and we finally have details of Gilligan’s new show. A cop drama dubbed Battle Creek, the show will air on CBS, and feature some talented people working together: Bryan Singer (The Usual Suspects, the X-Men series) will be directing the series pilot, with Kal Penn – of Harold And Kumar fame – set to star. Josh Duhamel (Transformers) and Dean Winters (“Mayhem” from those All-State commercials) help round out the cast.
Based on the handful of episodes of House that featured Penn (sidenote: House showrunner David Shore is set to hold the same role), chances seem pretty good that he kills it. Not that we’re calling on him to create a character as mesmerizing as Walter White – especially on CBS, where the show won’t get more leeway than a TV-14, that’s a mighty tall order – but he should thrive in his new role.
No word yet on when the show will air, but considering the names attached, it seems like a fall premier would make the most sense.
