Kanye West is currently in Germany for adidas’ Global Brand Conference. He performed several of his songs. But most importantly, he announced that his first collaboration with new partner adidas would release this June, also called the YEEZi. Kanye gave the brief–albeit important news–after one of his songs, which you can see below.
Rumors circulated around the Internet this afternoon that Kanye would actually reveal the shoes; however, today’s appearance only resulted in the announcement of a release date. The Chicago emcee showed up in a pair of white and green Stan Smiths instead.
Photos of what were reported to be the new YEEZi circulated around the web late last month, but the pairs, unfortunately for sneaker heads, proved false. The partnership, struck last November for a reported $10 million, has been the most talked about collaboration in the sneaker world (even more talked about than adidas’ partnership with sartorially minded musician Pharrell Williams), with every bit of news causing snearkerheads to salivate.
The shoes were originally supposed to debut in September, but this announcement might have been foreshadowed even in December when Kanye told Chicago’s 107.5 that he and the company had already designed 20 different pairs of shoes. The creative juices were flowing, and apparently have ensured things run ahead of schedule.
No word yet on how much the kicks will retail for.
Below, ‘Ye speaks about creativity.
Update: Ibn Jasper has referred to shoe as the YEEZi on more than one occasion on his Instagram. He’s about as close as we’ll get to hearing it directly from Kanye so for the time being, that’s what we’ll refer to it as.
