Chances are most people have never heard of Toronto Raptors general manager Masai Ujiri, much less ever hear him talk. Now, thanks to the NBA, we may not hear from Ujiri again for a while.
ICYMI, Ujiri, the 2012-2013 NBA Executive Of The Year, appeared at a city pep rally to get fans hype for the team’s playoff series against the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday, their first postseason appearance since 2008. Standing on stage in front of an excited crowd, he got carried away in the spirit of the moment and yelled “F*** Brooklyn!,” as seen and heard in the video above.
Even though he later apologized for using the “wrong choice of words,” the NBA wasn’t trying to hear that. They’ve reportedly fined Ujiri $25,000 for the expletive.
I’m not sure if the act warranted a fine, but the GM can afford the cost I would assume. He can write it off on his taxes or as a team expense maybe. But, since all his appearance did was help fuel Paul Pierce’s fire, it damn sure doesn’t appear to be worth.
That is unless the Raptors can manage to take the series, which resumes tonight with Game 2 in Toronto.
