If you were a fan of Nicki Minaj before she went all Lady Gaga and became a rap superstar, then we’ve got good news to share. However, if you became a “Barbie” after catching two little girls perform her hit “Super Bass” on Ellen, then you may want to look for something less colorful and more funeral-y to wear because that Nicki is dead, gone and is probably never coming back.
During a promo run for her film, The Other Woman, Nicki sat down with MTV to discuss returning to her real rap raw roots on her tentatively titled album, The Pink Print. Unfortunately for her pop fans, it’s a “hell no” for songs like “Super Bass.”
“With “Chi-raq” and “Lookin’ Ass,” there definitely back to my Hip-Hop roots. I don’t think it’s something I’m necessarily trying to do. Soon as I started working on my third album, that’s just the songs I’ve been writing. But, there are other types of music on the album I’m super excited about. I’m actually putting a song out maybe in a week and half. It’s not like “Chi-raq” or “Lookin’ Ass” so I don’t want people to think that I am only doing that kind of music either. I’m just doing what my heart tells me to do.”
As for the 31-year-old rapper’s new look that’s reigniting quite the thirst at the TSS office, Nicki says she’s just coming full-circle.
“It’s not a makeover. It’s just coming full-circle. I went so far to the other side that there’s only one place to go from there. You can either continue doing costumes and doing all that or you can just say, ‘Hey guess what? This will shock them even more. Doing absolutely nothing will shock them even more.’”
The Other Woman hits thea…meh who cares.
