Pharrell’s singing a love song for his offering to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 soundtrack. The song’s beautiful and well done by P as he stretches his vocals. However, there’s a small thorn in the lyrics that just bugs me.
“My dear it seems
We’re here again
Was there a glitch in my method?
Isn’t it clear we’re here again?
Let’s get new GPSs”
Right now, “Here” sounds like a power balled for P. Ten years from now, I’m pretty sure I’m going to grimace every time I hear that GPS line. The same gnawing reaction happens every time “Happy” is playing somewhere and I hear the “like a moon without a roof” lyric.
Aside from that, Pharrell’s keeping his winning streak alive and managed to create a tune that’s easily accessible across multiple genres. Expect “Here” to find its proper place on radio soon enough.
Correction: As Midnight Marauder pointed out, the “Happy” lyric is “room without a roof,” and not “moon without a room” as I originally stated. It’s not much better, but obviously an improvement. Pharrell explains that lyric’s meaning here. Even though I was wrong, I feel much happier about “Happy” with that info in hand.
