By now, everyone should be familiar with the relationship Rich Homie Quan formed with the Michigan State football team last season.
United by Quan’s hit “Some Type of Way,” the Spartans upended the traditional Big Ten football powers–like Ohio State and Michigan–won the conference and notched the program’s first Rose Bowl win since 1988, defeating Stanford in a slobber-knocking 24-20 contest. The team and its head coach, Mark D’Antonio, went so far as to fly Quan to the Rose Bowl game, in which he was clearly visible, and types of ways were felt amongst all.
So Sports Illustrated decided to catch up with Quan to really see how this all happened. Find the clip below that incorporates an interview with Quan and interspersed footage of the latter-half of the Spartans’ season to get more insight into another cool example of hip-hop and sports culture merging.
Here’s to hoping Quan, as he puts it in the interview, remains the Spartans second-favorite mascot heading into the 2014 season.
