Back in college, I had a screened porch on a main thoroughfare in downtown Kalamazoo and my roommate and I used to love watching the gazelles run by. By gazelles, I obviously mean fine undergrads in next to nothing, showing skin to prove a point.
These days, I’m married and living in a neighborhood where the average age is easily in the mid-thirties. Needless to say, my days of oogling have diminished quite substantially. Yet, that doesn’t stop me from reminiscing on those carefree stare sessions in Kazoo every time I hear Slave’s righteous dedication to eye stalking, “Watching You.”
Although the concept might be quite questionable by today’s standards, this uptempo groove from the Ohio funk group’s 1980 Stone Jam album was one of their best charting singles and will undoubtedly serve as prime time theme music for all the lovely ladies, out jogging down streets as the temperatures continue to rise, this spring.
