A few weeks back I wrote up a brief summary of all the news we’ve accumulated about Star Wars: Episode VII, but today StarWars.com dropped the official casting for the 2015 film and I can say that I’m pleasantly surprised.
“The Star Wars team is thrilled to announce the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.
Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), and Kenny Baker (R2D2) in the new film.”
We already heard rumors about it but this confirms that Attack the Blocks’ John Boyega is in the film and that just makes the Black nerd in me VERY VERY excited. And to see Andy Serkis, you know Gollum of Lord of the Rings and Caesar of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, listed as a cast member automatically makes me think that we’re going to got some bad-ass motion-capture bad-guy in the film.
No word was given as to what particular roles the new additions to the franchise will play. But it is a little bit reassuring to see all the old favorites back for one more ride in the Millennium Falcon.
Star Wars: Episode VII comes to your local galaxy December 18th, 2015.
