Following up last week’s release of the lead song, “When The People Cheer”, The Roots unveil the cover to their eleventh LP …and then you shoot your cousin. The Romare Bearden collage “Pittsburgh Memory” is sampled throughout the album art and the eye-catching piece retty much assures that the band plans to continue to push the envelope, just as they always do. Black Thought shared details with XXL:
“It’s conceptual; it’s another concept album in the spirit of undun, but it’s not just about just one kind of character, we create quite a few different characters in this record. It’s satire, but in that satire it’s an analysis of some of the stereotypes perpetuated in not only the hip-hop community, but in the community. I don’t know if that makes any sense.”
It looks like Def Jam’s showing a different release date – May 20 – than the May 13 one Questlove shared last week. Doesn’t matter. We’re getting a new Roots album and it’s available for pre-order here.
