Wizards big man Nene will have courtside seats to watch his team take on the Bulls in Game 4. Of course, he’d rather be on the court Sunday but the NBA handed down a one game suspension for the Wizards forward/center as a result of his confrontation with Chicago guard Jimmy Butler.
The two got tangled up in Game 3 on Friday night, exchanging first words, then shoves before Nene headbutted Butler and grabbed the Bulls guard around the neck. A bit of jostling took place, but both players were eventually separated before any punches were thrown. Both players were hit with techs but Nene, considered the aggressor, ended up ejected. After the game, Nene didn’t seem apologetic. “I have nothing to regret,” he said. “I’m a warrior right there. What I did, I’m supposed to do.”
“It was a turning point,” Chicago’s Joakim Noah said. “Emotions were riding high, and just got to keep your composure. You know, I’m not the one to talk; I’ve been in those situations. But it definitely was a bonus for us to have him out of the game.”
What remains to be see is if the action was a turning point isolated to Game 3 or will it have a lasting effect on the series as a whole.
