I know I’m probably in a minority by saying this but these ‘Nightshade’ IIs are bananas to me. Overall, the IIs don’t get the love and attention of other models but they’re a strong shoe to me. Part of that reason lies in the design by Bruce Kilgore, the same creative brain behind the Air Force 1, which looks so similar to many other models from the same era. The big, bulky padded ankle, the smooth toebox and thick sole are the recipe for greatness in my eyes.
When I saw what colorways Jordan Brand planned to release for the IIs, the ‘Nightshade’ version were near the top of my list and I think it’s because I love complicated shoes and colors. Obviously, nightshade isn’t an everyday colorway but one you break out on occasion, setting it up with the right gear. The deep shade of green has a chameleon appeal in that it looks navy in certain lights, then plain green in others. Ultimately, that leaves a lot of different ways you can wear them but I’d suggest standard cozy boy attire of sweats, hoodies and basketball shorts.
The black and sprinklings of volt balance it all out well. So do the embossed leather panels, the volt piping and speckled midsoles. I’ll probably swap out the speckled laces for plain black though, just to tone them down a notch.
The Air Jordan II ‘Nightshade’ drops on Saturday, May 17 at JB retailers and on Nike.com. Thanks to the Jordan Brand fam for making sure I could get my hands on these. I also threw in an extra pic of other goodies they sent via the FedEx fairy.
