Look, I don’t think Lil B is actually a god, with the ability to curse things, or that Tony Romo is a legitimate jinx with the ability to ruin everything he touches (okay, maybe I do believe that one), but things sure are getting a little weird in Oklahoma City.
The Thunder’s Slim Charles, Serge Ibaka, has been ruled out for the remainder of the playoffs after he suffered a calf injury in last night’s series clinching Game 6 win over the Clippers. OKC’s chances of beating the ultra efficient Spurs was already dicey when they were at full strength, but now it’s nearing impossible. The Spurs love to attack the paint, and Ibaka is the league’s premier rim protector, leading the league in total blocks the last four seasons, and now he’s gone.
The injury does open up the possibility of the generally clueless Scott Brooks using more small ball lineups that feature Kevin Durant at power forward, a near impossible lineup to guard, but it also probably means Brooks will just play Kendrick Perkins more because, reasons.
The Spurs had an injury scare of their own in the series clinching Game 5 win against the Trailblazers when Tony Parker left the game after just 10 minutes with a hamstring injury. Fortunately for them, Parker is expected to play in Game 1 against OKC on Monday.
Cue the BasedGod memes, though.
