Are you ready for your car to drive you around? Well, it sounds like Google is ready to impose that concept on the world.

After more than 700,000 hours of testing with ZERO accidents, Google has finally started to try and get laws passed that would allow their self-driving cars to be on the road, completely unmanned. The car has been wowing techies and investors alike, which is a Lexus with no steering wheel, accelerator pedal or brake pedal. Amazing, right? Google is expecting them to be ready for public use between 2017 and 2020. With it, the self-driving car could help minimize accidents, control speeds and overall let the car do the all the driving.

This advancement hasn’t been met without any friction, however. The huge service industry, which includes bus and taxi drivers, would obviously oppose this technology. And think of the hit to the traffic ticket revenue police and highway patrol would endure, a $6.2 billion money tree.

Google released a video yesterday showing off the car with regular people. The quick “A First Drive” video has a strange undertone, only showing old couples and women testing the car. Is Google pointing out their target audience, or was that a low blow? Technological progression is usually a good thing, but this is one step into computers taking over. But at least they didn’t take the Johnny Cab route.
