The headlines keep coming for Team Jigga.
Just as the media was starting to forget about SolangeGate, word comes through that Jay Z reportedly has parted ways with longtime business partner John Meneilly. Per the New York Daily News, the reasons for the break aren’t completely clear.
Music industry insiders exclusively tell Confidenti@l that Jay Z has cut ties with John Meneilly, who helped build the “Empire State” rapper’s empire.
According to one well-placed music industry insider, Meneilly didn’t want to go, “It wasn’t his choice.”
Though a second source close to the split described it as “amicable and mutual” and says the agreement was made “a couple months ago.”
Considering the incredible success that the duo found together – Meneilly was played an integral role in the success of Rocawear and Roc Nation’s evolution from music label to talent agency – it doesn’t make much sense, on the surface at least. Meneilly has spent much of his career as the “behind the scenes guy” – his role in the Jay/Dame falling out is discussion fodder for rap nerds, but he’s hardly a household name. So unless he comes out of the woodworks and shares his side of the story, it’ll have to take someone more important taking his place to explain the departure. Because, if I’m a betting man, Jay isn’t explaining a thing.
I wonder what’s Dame thinking?
