“In the Ferrari or Jaguar, switchin’ four lanes
With the top down screamin out, Money ain’t a thang”
“Money Ain’t A Thang” was released on this day in 1998 as the second single from JD’s Life In 1472. Nothing abstract or avant garde or anything like that; “Money…” was rap at its flashiest. As is generally the case, an outstandingly triumphant beat and infectious hook made Jay-Z and Jermaine Durpi’s late ’90s track a hit, allowing it to take over radios from New York City to Atlanta. It also netted Jay one of three 1999 Grammy nominations.
But ehhh, who are we kidding, all that really matters is that damn hook.
