Lupe Fiasco’s attached himself to several different causes over the past few years but none may have a greater impact than his latest “Mission,” simply because so many have had their lives affected by it.
The song serves a dual purpose, first as the lead single to his upcoming Tetsuo & Youth album. Secondly, “Mission” serves as a battle cry for those those facing or who have faced cancer. The track opens with multiple people speaking of their battle, including none other than legendary singer “Uncle” Charlie Wilson. In the song’s lyrics, Lupe plays the narrator for cancer survivors, those who have succumbed to the disease and their families, detailing the emotional toil it takes and the mental strength so many have summoned to fight it.
“Mission” also represents Lupe’s role as an ambassador for Stand Up For Cancer, an “initiative to accelerate innovative cancer research.” And while the song will become available on iTunes at midnight, a free, early listen has been provided below.
