Last night, Drake, Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj all dropped verses.
Nicki had the best bars.
Minaj has reached that lovely “Monster” medium between batsh*t insane delivery and straight up raw MCing. Sort of like how Wayne did around the Drought 3 era, but to a lesser extent. Between this, the “Chiraq” track and “Lookin’ Ass,” the YMCMB first lady has been on a roll.
Also, don’t look now, but there’s a lesson in the new Nicki for her “Barbz” or whatever to follow. She’s stripped away the fake hair, the pasties, the crazy makeup and the phoned-in music. She’s showed more of her natural self physically and creatively and she’s never been sexier or more appreciated. It’s hard to say that Nicki Minaj should be an inspiration while she’s still rapping “I don’t f*ck with these n****, I own the Clippers” but there’s definitely an inspirational story here that young Nicki fans can grab onto going forward.
PS. I think YMCMB keeps Soulja Boy locked in a 9th Ward dungeon or something and lets him come out to pop up on their tracks because I swear I forget he’s alive until Nicki or Drake or someone grabs him for a track.
