As World Cup 2014 finally begins in Brazil, eyes around the world will be glued to their televisions. According to Forbes, TV revenue from this year’s tournament is projected to reach $1.7 billion. In between matches, however the advertisements take center stage.

We’ve already featured animated Neymar and Ronaldo playing to save the world, A Lionel Messi soccer dream with Kanye West providing the soundtrack and David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane show competitiveness never fades.

While companies scramble for the attention of engaged fans of the beautiful game, here are some other World Cup ads to keep you up to date before the first whistle of the 2014 World Cup.

1. Nike’s “Winner Stays”

One of the first ads to be aired on television before the Cup, Nike brought in all their stars, a CGI Incredible Hulk and a universal schoolyard rule that the winning team keeps playing. Instead of screaming “Jordan” hitting the buzzer beater this is for the kids who scream “Ronaldo” when striking a goal to the back of the net. Same as “The Last Game” ad, Nike pushes the creativity of the world’s most popular sport.

2. Beats By Dre’s “The Game Before The Game”

Beats continues its theme of pre-game walk-ups featuring World Football’s current greats. The behind the curtain concept proved successful for campaigns for the NFL and NBA. Since Dr. Dre’s company launched, many footballers were seen around the top flight clubs in Europe sporting these headphones. Great decision by Apple, who newly acquired the company, looking to get a return on their $3.2 billion investment.

3. Kia’s “Football vs Futbol” With Adriana Lima

The American soccer fan has evolved and grown in numbers in the past decade. To those still not convinced, Kia brings in Brazilian supermodel Adriana Lima to help promote her national pastime. The petition on the copy pleads, “For one month, let’s all be Futbol fans.” Fine women have made men do worse so a simple compromise doesn’t sound so bad.

4. Hyundai’s “Because Futbol: Avoidance”

You can insert any sport for this ad which adds to its universal appeal. When missing out on the game, you try to block out any information you can about the score. Fingers in the ears and brushing off friends from spoilers can only go so far. Smart phone updates don’t help. But your best efforts always fail when an indifferent little girl says what’s on her mind.

5. McDonald’s “GOL!”

3.2 Billion people watched at least one minute of the 2010 World Cup. So it shouldn’t be a shock that people from all walks of life have their hands, better yet feet on a soccer ball. McDonald’s incorporates the You Tube trick shot videos with unlikely shots by unlikely shooters. You’ll be sold when you see the young lady in the black dress dribbling like Neymar.
