This move had to have been inspired by Kanye. There’s no way I’ll be convinced of otherwise. For a long time, the Nike Air Flight 89s sat on shelves and even the coveted White/Zen, White/Royal, and White/Red pairs hit the clearance section at a bunch of stores. Until the Yeezus effect kicked in. Soon as he’s seen in them, the resale value shot up at least 20%.
Now interested parties can take that ‘Ye related inflation money and make their own custom shoe via Nike iD. Within minutes of release, there had to have been at least 50-60 different types of South Beach or Yeezy influenced colorways. Can’t hate on that, but I’m more hype that there’s three different material options and the choice to add midsole speckling.
As of now only 12 colors are available to use as the upper but that might change at any given time. Nike’s still coming out on the winning end with that steep price tag but who can turn down the temptation of customizing such a prized shoe? Those rocking Pro Keds, that’s who.
The Nike Air Flight 89 iD is now available on Nike iD. Retail is $145.
