A few months ago, I picked up a pair of Air Max 1s after having not worn the model in ages. This was a brand new pair, fresh out of the box and as soon as I put my foot in…they felt flat. Like wearing a pair of Chucks flat. Nothing’s actually changed with the cushioning on the AM1; my feet have simply grown accustomed to all of these great, new technologies and were reluctant to backwards. I put the shoes back in the closet.
Fast forward to now and Nike’s solved my AM1 problem by creating a new hybrid. Everything about the Air Max Lunar1 says traditional Air Max 1, except for when you hit the soles. That’s where gamechanger occurs. Somehow, the mad scientists picked up a way to merge the Air Max unit into a full Lunarlon sole, meaning max cushioning without totally altering the overall look of the shoe. I say fantastic; sign me up for these pronto.
Two colorways are already available at Nike.com with more to follow with more details available here. It sucks that the women game royal pair while men get the challenge red version. The OG red’s cool but we’ve seen it hundreds of times before on AM1s. Give us blue!
