I’ve never been a fan of the Staple mascot but Jeff Staples’ brand itself is top notch. Collaborating with Nike and Puma weren’t enough, as now he’s teamed up with Clarks to produce a two pack that will turn heads at the very least.
The Staple x Clarks Tawyer Helix looks more like a 2014 take on the Wallabee than anything else. Dedicated followers of the brand will remember the familiar grey and salmon colorway he made famous many years ago. It’s now made its way onto a tonal suede and leather upper with a panel that’s cut and twisted in a helix, exposing the foot for the world to see. Best rock some dope socks or plenty of moisturizer while wearing them. Instead of crepe, the ridged sole is now a foam/rubber combo that takes some cues from Vietnam era jungle boots.
The buttery two texture suede/leather upper on the Staple x Clarks Tawyer Twist is all navy, and the mobius strip looking weave isn’t as prominent. The added inner sockliner and heel loop is a welcome addition to break up what could be an otherwise monotonous shoe. File these under yet another casual sneaker that’s just right for warm weather. I like these over the Helix but they both have their own lanes.
The Staple x Clarks Tawyer pack releases very soon. No word on pricing yet.
