Think back to where you were 10 years ago today. Once you’re there, consider where music was at that same time. Then look at those past surroundings and try to remember the fun dances associated with songs.
One song and its accompanying video released on this day, July 6, 2004, that had everybody in celebrating in unison: Fat Joe’s “Lean Back.”
The song was super simple with its catchy chorus that doubled as instructions for back-bending, hip-dipping dance. Both were so easy to mimic, everyone could participate on both and participate they did. Black and white, old people and tiny tots. SportsCenter anchors would throw elements of “Lean Back” into their commentary. The song may have been the pinnacle of Fat Joe’s mainstream existence as he hand everyone pulling up their pants and leaning back.
Also, Remy Ma, who featured on the song, was a free woman, too, just in case you forgot.
