The NFL’s newly announced changes to their policies on domestic violence are already being put to the test. Per SF Gate, San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Ray McDonald was arrested on domestic violence charges on Sunday morning.
“Officers responded to reports of violence in the 2500 block of Bentley Ridge Drive in San Jose around 2:45 a.m. McDonald was taken into custody without incident and booked into Santa Clara County Jail. McDonald’s alleged victim was pregnant, according to NBC Bay Area. No bail has been set for McDonald, who was also arrested for DUI in 2010.
“The 49ers have not immediately responded for comment.”
McDonald’s arrest comes after commissioner Roger Goodell informed owners that stiffer penalties would be in place for all league personnel for incidents related to domestic violence. Those changes are said to include a six-game suspension for a first-time incident followed by a lifetime ban for a second offense.
