Almost two months after Busta Rhymes announced his departure from Birdman’s Cash Money Records, it appears that Mystikal’s set on separating from the coveted label.
Mystikal said he would be leaving Cash Money in an interview with Rap-Up following a short three-year stint with the music group. The New Orleans great explains it had nothing to do with ill-feelings, but more so a matter of gelling with the organization that is YMCMB.
“I don’t really fit the mold of the situation I’m in. I’m different, man,” Mystikal declared. “I have to be able to be the artist that I am. If I can’t do that, then it’s not gonna work for me,” he continued on the matter of his relationship with Wayne and the organization. “That’s all respect. That’s family. We were family prior to this. And I thank them for the opportunity, but I don’t wanna be a liability to them ’cause it’s a waste of money, if nothing ever comes from it.”
Interestingly enough, Busta and Mystikal were signed to the label on the same day in November 2011 following Mystikal’s release from prison. As fate would have it, the two would be leaving at similar times after putting out close to nothing during their time. With the “Danger” rapper indicating potential collaborations with Busta as well, it’ll be interesting to see what the veterans look to do following the end of an era with Cash Money with very little to show.
