In amazing news, the movement first started by Bill Simmons and later continued by Jimmy Kimmel has come to fruition: Paul George has changed his number from 24 to 13, instantly giving himself the greatest NBA nickname of all-time – PG-13. (Bear with me while I use the f*ck out of this nickname for the remainder of this piece).
Simmons once wrote on Grantland:
“By the way, I have some advice that will help Paul George become a household name. He should change his number immediately from no. 24 to no. 13. Here’s why … can you think of anyone being helped by a nickname more than Paul George suddenly becoming “PG-13?” Uh-oh, PG-13 is heating up! Warning, this game contains strong language, violence and a possible heat check! We might have to make this performance rated “R” — it’s too hot to handle! Let’s make this happen already.”
Who says players don’t take on board fans’ suggestions? It’s been a tough fortnight for PG-13, who horrifyingly broke his leg in a Team USA scratch match (caution, that link is definitely PG-13), but this news will surely bring a smile to both his and Indiana fans’ faces. After half a year of drama at the Pacers, things may well be lightening up a bit.
Here’s hoping PG-13 makes a swift return to action and that Nike fires up the marketing campaign quick!
