Looks Like The Philadelphia Eagles Might Go Back To Their Old Jerseys

The Charlotte Bobcats became the Charlotte Hornets this year and adopted their old uniforms. Could the Philadelphia Eagles–sans a name change–be the next to revert to their old, beloved jersey colorways, the Kelly green tops the club wore from the 1940s through 1995?

Perhaps, according to Eagles president Dan Smolenski. Smolenski hopped onto 94WIP in Philly to elaborate:

“We have talked about it and there are some rules with the NFL that provides some restrictions that we’re trying to work through, but that’s going to take some time…. It’s there, and it’s something that we do talk about, but until some things change at the NFL level it’s going to provide restrictions for us. It is being talked about it, yes.”

The likely restriction being alluded to is the rule that teams can’t wear one-off helmets anymore because of the new helmet safety protocols in place due to concussion lawsuits. For safety, the recommendation was made to keep one helmet for the entire season.

The Eagles have worn the old jerseys only once since 1995 when they donned them during a 2010 game in order to honor the 1960 Eagles squad. Their current get-up has been used since 1996 with very little alterations.

Looks like I’ll have to badger my mom to unearth all that old Eagles merch from when we lived in West Chester in the early-1990s. It all might be relevant again.
