Here are two things we can almost assume to be fact:
1. Your Old Droog isn’t Nas. I’ve come to accept this in order to save myself from any potential disappointment.
2. Your Old Droog’s talent is undeniable. Song after song, he’s proven to be the proverbial itch to the scratch for this rap fiend.
Fresh of the announcement of his debut performance upcoming in early September and dropping “No Message” featuring Rast RFC, the New York emcee blesses us with an ode to Tamron Hall, MSNBC’s daytime anchor and all-around babe, with his new track, “On The News,” produced by EL RTNC and Droog. While his voice resembles that of the living legend – beside it being maybe half an octave lower – the flow on “On The News” strikes me as some of Droog’s most original content, as he kicks it back and moseys over a Saturday-morning themed beat.
Naysayer or not, what really matters is that there is some dude in New York right now putting out absolute heat and the loosie only exacerbates our desires for Droog to step out from behind the booth and genuinely be a star waiting to happen. The prospect of him emerging as an original entity is exciting, as his reverence to classic Hip-Hop is something the game sorely needs right now.
The new track is slated for his debut album Your Old Droog LP, which has no formal release date as of yet. In the meantime cop somebody make plans to go to man’s debut show and take a your Canon or Nikon to snap pics, so what’s become the quiet debate of summer can finally be settled.
