Most songs labeled ‘an anthem for stoner pride’ are going to be cheesy. Sure enough, Ellis Martin’s new single “High On A Monday” fits the bill. But, that’s OK. It’s cheesy in a good way and I can’t help smile during every listen.
We all know what the track is about, but the key is that is sounds nothing like 99% of weed tracks being mass produced these days. Instead of a boring haze, this singer/songwriter delivers a track that sounds like Bobby McFerrin meets Afro Man, offering playful lyrics atop a vintage, R&B meets Reggae backdrop. The song is extremely potent and if someone like Lonely Island made it, the masses would all be singing along.
