A Boston Herald Cartoon Joke About Obama And Watermelon Went Over As Well As You’d Imagine

How an intruder not only waltzed into the White House, but got beyond the front door is one of the weirder plot twists in President Obama’s tenure. But, of course, the story just doesn’t end there, as if national security isn’t a big enough issue of its own.

Cue today’s issue of The Boston Herald and a editorial cartoon that somehow passed the cutting room floor depicting the intruder suggesting Obama use watermelon-flavored toothpaste. You know, because watermelon jokes always go over well. Per CBS-Boston, the paper’s editors issued an apology shortly after the picture started making the rounds.

“Contributors to our Editorial and Opinion pages have the right to express their views, and satire is clearly used in Jerry Holbert’s cartoon today,” Herald spokesperson Gwen Gage said in a statement.

“That said, we sincerely regret if we inadvertently offended anyone and extend our sincere apologies.”

However, the cartoon still remains on the site.
