Record producer and Fool’s Gold label head A-Trak recently appeared on the “A Waste of Time With ItsTheReal” podcast for an episode touching on topics including touring with Kanye West, DJ Khaled’s Snapchat and his Beats 1 show, but the most interesting parts of the conversation were about his relationships with Cam’ron and Dame Dash.
A-Trak shares a window into life with Dame and Cam, describing a ride in the rapper’s Bentley when Dame was screaming at his lawyers on the way to record material for the long-delayed Federal Reserve EP. Stating that both Dame and Cam were both well-versed in “lawyer talk,” he shares an amusing anecdote about the meaning of “fiduciary obligation.” Check out the video clip above for the full story.
As for A-Trak’s joint project with Cam’ron, the producer says all the material they have for Federal Reserve so far was recorded in a period of two months and there are “enough [songs] for almost an EP,” but “those link ups [with Dame and Cam] started slowing down to the point of a complete halt.” A-Trak says the Dipset reunion,”Dipsh*ts,” “set the mark for what the project should be like” because “everybody loves and misses Dipset,” but it looks like collaboration won’t be released anytime soon:
“My thing is I refuse to put out a project that’s not at the standard I want it to be at because that defeats the whole purpose of Federal Reserve. There are some [songs] that aren’t out that are great that I’m just holding onto closely because they only belong on the finished project when it’s done.”
Although A-Trak leaves open the possibility that he and Cam will “link up and just finish up those last couple of joints,” it sure doesn’t sound promising. It’s really too bad, because rap’s more fun when Cam’ron’s around.
