Last night’s game was an obvious instant classic. It was the perfect drama piece that was almost cinematic. However, while we have been engulfed in the back and forth action of the Super Bowl, I can’t help but feel greatly affected by the truly emotional moment that happened four hours before Santonio Holmes caught that game-winning catch.
Jennifer Hudson approached the stage to sing the National Anthem as a picture of strength and beauty. My room fell silent as we watched her gather herself to sing. We didn’t know if she would keep it together or get emotional in the middle of the song which was the first time she’d performed since the murders of her brother and mother in October.
As soon as the first notes filled the arena, I stopped worrying and became mesmerized.
Yes, it was lip-synched but that doesn’t matter. Just the ability to go on stage at such a big venue for the first time since the murders was inspirational. Undoubtedly this was a legendary performance that is sure to conjure memories of pre-crack Whitney.
The game was great, but this performance gave me chills. Watch again and relive it.
