Angel Haze – “Cleaning Out My Closet”

Whoa. That’s about the most appropriate description of Angel Haze’s take of Eminem’s “Cleaning Out My Closet.” The dark trip down memory lane finds Haze recounting years and years of sexual abuse for a record that’s equal parts uncomfortable and endearing.

Regardless of what’s perceived as the true intention – attention or audio therapy – admitting such on wax takes some form of courage. The song plays in the manner of a “Dear Journal” entry and by the end of the record, asking yourself “what the hell did I just listen to?” is likely the first choice for responses. The tales of abuse are so graphic you’re nearly left to wish Chris Hansen could dedicate the rest of life finding the worthless piece of sh*t.

In all seriousness, kudos to Angel for the bravery. You can appreciate the honesty. I can appreciate the honesty. And maybe the next person can to. Just know it’s somebody out there who’ll listen to this song and be brought to tears because it’s their story.
