Every so often Thom Yorke comes out of nowhere to release a track. He’s one of music’s favorite reclusive hermits, preferring to remain hidden until the time’s right to drop some sort of eclectically blended dance track. From the woodwork comes his work on supergroup Atoms For Peace’s “What The Eyeballs Did,” which is the perfect tune for anyone who’s loved Yorke’s solo work or anything Radiohead’s released since In Rainbows. Percussion sputters while Yorke’s ominous vocals lie underneath. It’s ambient but perfectly Thom: he’s integral but not overwhelming, allowing himself to take a backseat to the pulsating rhythm.
“What The Eyeballs Did” will appear on a 12″ single for Atoms For Peace’s tune “Default,” with a full-length album coming from the group (which also includes Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers) next year.
