For Beanie Sigel, authenticity has been simultaneously the source of great artistic triumph, and baffling personal lows. In the worst yet of a string of poor decisions and bad breaks, the South Philadelphia rapper was shot in the stomach following an altercation outside a Pleasantville, New Jersey home at 9:25 a.m. Friday morning, per Press Of Atlantic City.
There are very few details about the altercation or the nature of the shooting, but Beans and another man were both shot. The other victim refused medical treatment at the scene, but Sigel was hit in the torso and rushed to a local hospital. He’s reported to be in surgery as we speak, and we’ll update with details as we receive them.
Sigel was recently released from prison in August after a two-year stint for tax evasion, and was on home confinement after spending some time in a halfway house. He was supposedly wearing his ankle bracelet during this morning’s altercation.
Let’s keep the Broad Street Bully in our thoughts in prayers.
Update: Beans is reportedly out of surgery and in recovery.
“Authorities and Sigel’s lawyer initially called the wound life-threatening, but hospital officials told police that the 40-year-old rapper was awake Friday afternoon after surgery, Pleasantville police Chief Jose Ruiz told The Associated Press. Investigators were on their way to try to interview him, he said.
There may be “some type of family relationship” between the two men, but investigators aren’t sure yet, Ruiz said. “Apparently, there was a struggle of some type, which led to Mr. Grant being shot and that is all we have at this point,” Ruiz said.”
Correction: The earlier picture of Sigel at the hospital appears to be an older one. As such, we removed it.
