Since the “Flawless” remix I’ve been wondering what Beyonce meant when she rapped, “Of course sometime sh*t goes down when there’s a billion dollars on an elevator.” Now thanks to her dad and former manager, I finally get it.
According to Mathew Knowles, the elevator fight seen ’round the world was just a “Jedi mind trick” to sell tickets and boost Solange’s album sales.
“I know, because we’ve done this. From experience, there’s a tour going on,” he said. “So you sometimes have to ignite that tour. It’s called a Jedi mind trick. The Jedi mind trick fools you a lot.”
Incredulous, one of the hosts asked if it were truly possible that Beyonce, Jay Z, and Solange Knowles staged and leaked the tape of themselves arguing in an elevator at an after-party for the Met Ball in New York earlier this year.
He said, “All I know is the Jedi mind trick. Everyone’s talking about it. Ticket sales went up. Solange’s album sales went up 200%!”
I know The Carters are a brand, but turning ratchet for publicity? I don’t buy it. Even if this Billboard article does say Bey and Jay started selling tickets like hot cakes after the “media onslaught.” I refuse to believe love personified would stoop to T.I. and Tiny-type levels of ratchetness for ticket sales and 24-hour media coverage. No celebrity wants that.
