With all those tropical keys jangling around Big Sean’s “Guap,” listeners would expect Sean’s visuals for the track to take place in Barbados or something. Nope: Sean Don and directors Mike Carson and Mike Waxx opt instead to set “Guap”‘s sunshiny production and hashtagged ab-libs in the rapper’s native Detroit, bedecking grannies with Jesus pieces and staging Carnival along D-Town’s Woodward Avenue. Oh God! The juxtaposition between chilly Detroit and Sean’s ostentatious ways is too much. The only thing missing is an Aziz Ansari cameo and it would’ve been perfect.
But this version’s more than fine, too. “Guap” will appear on Sean’s sophomore album, Hall of Fame, which is due in February.
