Well god damn: continually underrated R&B singer BJ The Chicago Kid released a short, three-track EP dedicated to D’Angelo’s Voodoo? You bet your ass he did.

The Windy City artist took on the legendary crooner’s “Send It On” and “Untitled” in honor of the seminal album’s 16-year anniversary. Jairus Mozee handled the production on the two cuts and he played the re-invention pretty close to home: Mozee’s versions flutter in warmly and hang in the air like smoke just like their predecessors. But the real star here is BJ’s singing: It could easily pass for D’Angelo’s, delicately hitting those high notes as if it were D in both.
