We’ve been calling him Bobby Ray for a minute so this suits me just fine. Now, The Artist Formerly Known As B.o.B. says that’s what he prefers that you call him as well.
“Now I go by the name ‘Bobby Ray.’ Make sure you put ‘Bobby Ray,’ ” the MC revealed. “I’m really going into a new direction — more free and not trying to live up to any particular genre. I don’t feel like I’ve been doing that. I don’t feel like I’ve been trying to fit in, but I feel even more free-spirited. I have more willingness musically. That’s all I’m about. I’m about guitars, chords and keyboards.”
Does it matter to me? Not really. Whatever it takes for him to fight over the initial road bumps of stardom that seem to beset so many new artists when they receive that first overwhelming dosage of fame. For B.o.B. Bobby Ray particularly, I think it’s good that he clarify that his influences & forewarns listeners that what he creates will be larger than Hip-Hop. I knew this (Have you listened to the Hello, My Name Is… mixtape?) but now the world will have to hear him out and adjust their ears to do so.
Signifying that change of pace, here’s his latest offering which has a definite roots vibe to it. Not in the least bit out of left field for B.o.B., but you knew that right?[audio:http://www.snapdrive.net/files/591135/01%20Mr.%20Bobby.mp3%5D
