While streaming the Underground Luxury snippets last week, “John Doe” must have slipped its way past me. Or maybe they snippeted just the right portion of the track that fooled me into believing B.o.B was headed to a good place with the album. As much as I love a song with an explicit topic and message behind it, this “Just Say No” song feels far too manufactured with the poppy chorus from singer Priscilla – was Rihanna busy? Paramore’s Hayley couldn’t be called? – and the lightweight keys and production.
Let’s hope “John Doe” is a one-time bender and not what we should expect from Underground Luxury on December 17, given Alantic’s addiction to meddling in their artists’ music.
