E3, the Superbowl for geeks, kicks off today with a whole lot of CG trailers, concept demos and other tricks to gain hype from gamers. The event’s been a showcase for sequels and, when Microsoft exhibited Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare as their first game, the internet let off a collective eye-roll. Then heads saw it and more than a few jumped on the bandwagon.
I admittedly threw shade because it’s pretty much a reflex whenever Call of Duty comes up. Truth be told this new one looks alright, though. The helicopter grenades look fun to use and gaming law states jet packs improve every game. Credit also goes to developer Sledgehammer Games for actually playing the game on stage. Yeah, it’s scripted but I’d rather see any game run than settle with a trailer.
The ability to spot enemies behind cover’s the only thing I’m not about. That’s mainly a concern for multiplayer so hopefully the devs can fairly balance it out. So yeah, it’s hard to hate on the new COD just yet other than the fact that the franchise exists. I guess the devs and Activision finally learned from Tony Hawk, Guitar Hero and gave the series a much needed facelift. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare drops November 4, 2014, for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
