The words “Cee-Lo” and “single” are a pretty good indication we can be expecting a new album from the conductor of The Soul Machine between now and December 31. Exactly when is anybody’s guess, but with the first look into the project, “Only You,” the man sure seems to be in love.
Featuring Lauriana Mae – who’s still wet behind the ears in the music business – and found on his still-untitled LP the two tackle the subject of love in what honestly is a commendable, FM-ready duet. From the fights, to the good times to everything in between, it all serves as inspiration resulting in what Cee-Lo describes as “two people on different paths, hoping for the best, hoping that those paths lead to each other.”
Where many will undoubtedly find complaints in his seeming unwillingness to return to rapping full-time, I harbor the belief quality is quality. That and my copy of Soul Food is still in mint condition. Nevertheless, Valentine’s Day is creeping on a come up and “Only You” has all the makings of a crossover smash played every hour on the hour once radio receives the green light.
