His donut in Game 7 of the 2013 Finals notwithstanding, Chris Bosh has been Miami’s emergency fire hydrant on more than one occasion. There was that time in Atlanta nearly a year ago today. In San Antonio last season when both James and Wade were DNPs, he nailed the game winner. And then there’s his postseason flair for the dramatic, highlighted by his Game 7 performance in the 2012 East finals and having the most important rebound, assist and block perhaps in franchise history in Game 6 of last year’s Finals.
Saturday night, the Heat were finishing off a back-to-back that saw them drop a winnable game in Sacramento only 24 hours earlier. With ‘Bron in street clothes nursing ankle and groin injuries, Bosh led the way for Miami with a man-sized double-double of 37 points and 10 rebounds. The third leg of the “Big 3” came alive in the fourth quarter with a trio of threes, the last of which cut the lights off in the Moda Center.*
The 108-107 victory was not only Miami’s 20th in its last 21 games against Western opponents, it also snapped Portland’s 11-game winning streak against teams from the other conference this season.
* – He was also mobbed by teammates after the game, including a James Brown-like coronation from LeBron and D-Wade.
