Cocaine 80s Ft. Common – “Congratulations” (Prod. By No I.D.)

Remember how dope it was to hear Andre 3000 flip the jitters of marriage on “International Players Anthem” instantly catapulting that verse near the apex of his career highlights? Well, Common’s appearance on “Congratuatations” may not have the “instant classic” factor, but it’s further proof Hip-Hop wedding raps are an underrated and under-appreciated part of the culture.

Lonnie dons the role of best man and paints a picture Bob Ross-style of his best friend’s big day. Without saying the rhyming was “flawless,” it’d be pretty hard pressed to find much of anything wrong with the record. There’s reminiscing on his single days running the streets with the groom, the HBCU memories (!!), the hesitations he has with his future best-sister-in-law and even grandma wearing that big ass hat.

The No I.D.-produced tune also comes with an immaculate sense of timing. Next month, I’ll be the best man in my best friend’s wedding; a good chance arises Common and Cocaine 80s new-age wedding anthem will earn spins as I shake Saturday night’s hangover and piece together my tux. The only difference with Com and myself is I absolutely adore my best friend’s fiancé. She’s awesome. Much like the song.
