Co$$’s video for “Pot Ash” is minimalist, black-and-white. The camera walks us through the Los Angeles streets, and shows the man delivering his rhymes in front of a solid background, with a few guests coming past to grace the camera’s eye. Nothing too fancy, or too intricate.
But that’s not necessary. Co$$’s lyrics provide the color and flash to make “Pot Ash” more than worthy of attention, combining skill with the pen – check the rhyme schemes laced throughout the song – with reflections on life, jewels for the listener to ruminate over. His bars meld beautifully with the beat as well, gliding smooth over a snatch of jazzy, laid-back piano delicately chopped by Exile. And as things draw to an end, a sax solo comes in, adding a final, perfect touch to the track’s vibe.
