De La Soul Returns…I Think

Madlib and Freeway collabo? Nope. The doo-rag and Philly Freezer-style beard threw me off. In the image above, you’re actually looking at Jacob “Pop Life” Barrow and Deen Whitter better known as the latest aliases from the rapping members of De La Soul.

Thanks guys. I’ve never been able to be on the same page with anyone when it comes to your names. Dave or Dove, Plug1 / Won or Posdnuous, I end up relying on saying just “De La.” But now they’re calling themselves First Serve as the two minus Maseo have combined to work on new material. “Pushin’ Aside, Pushin’ Along” is the first single for the project but remove all the titles. It’s characteristically De La Soul.

Also included under the First Serve moniker is the Goon Time mixtape which is dominantly other artists and remixes with a hint of rhymes from the boys from Strong Island. And to officially mark this as a De La joint, a new skit accompanies the project with chuckle worthy one-liners from character Mrs. Whitter: “It was all a dream? I guess you two still sleeping!”

Welcome back De La.
